Medicare and Family Satisfaction Ratings Affirm Quality Care

Walnut Hills recently received affirmation of high quality care provided to residents when the results of two different surveys were released.

In the Medicare Five-Star Quality Ratings, Walnut Hills Nursing Home received a four star out of five rating, the only Nursing Home in Holmes County to receive that high of a rating. The Medicare ratings were based on health inspections, staffing, and quality measures. To view more specific results of the Medicare survey, visit www.medicare.gov/NHCompare .

In the most recent Family Satisfaction Survey conducted by the Ohio Department of Aging, Walnut Hills Nursing Home received on overall score of 93.9 percent, well above the statewide average of 88.2 percent.
The surveys were conducted between July and December 2008 and asked family members of nursing home residents about their satisfaction in a number of areas, including choices, environment, direct nursing care, meals, laundry, therapy, and activities at the facility
Two years ago, Walnut Hills received the 17th highest rating in the state in the family survey. These surveys involve a limited number of individuals (49 responses this year), so each response makes a substantial difference in a facility's percentage.
To find out more about the ODA's Family Satisfaction Survey, visit the department's Long-Term Care Consumer Guide website at www.ltc.ohio.gov .

We encourage individuals to combine rating and survey information with personal visits and references when selecting a facility for rehabilitation or retirement living.
